This is a huge, fat, ugly cucumber with crackled brown skin, but its absolutely delicious, super crispy, and a conversation starter. The cukes if left on the vine can get to be a foot long and weigh several pounds. I have grown this variety for over a decade.
This variety was originally grown in the Himalayas of Sikkim and Nepal, and were first described in 1848 by botanist Sir Joseph Hooker while exploring the area. In his journal it was written “So abundant were the fruits, that for days together I saw gnawed fruits lying by the natives’ paths by the thousands, and every man, woman and child seemed engaged throughout the day in devouring them."
